President Donald Trump said Friday that both China and Russia have assured him they will not arm Iran, signaling what he described as a major diplomatic victory as the United States continues its military pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic.
The announcement came in a Truth Social post in which Trump claimed he received direct commitments from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin that neither nation would provide weapons to Tehran. If those promises hold, it would leave Iran without support from two of the world’s largest military powers during a period of heightened conflict.
The comments also come as the Trump administration continues operations aimed at crippling Iran’s military capabilities while seeking to restore stability in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
