Chilling Words From Gunman Near Vance Motorcade

Federal prosecutors have thrown the book at a Texas man accused of opening fire near Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade in the nation’s capital — a shocking incident that unfolded just steps away from the heart of American power and left an innocent bystander wounded in the chaos.

According to the Department of Justice, 45-year-old Michael Marx of Midland, Texas, now faces multiple federal charges after authorities say he engaged in a gun battle with Secret Service agents Monday afternoon near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Prosecutors allege the suspect was armed, dangerous, and openly hostile toward the federal government during the frightening encounter.

The DOJ announced Wednesday that Marx has been charged with assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm during a violent crime, and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The charges come after what authorities describe as a potentially catastrophic situation unfolding near the route traveled by the vice president’s motorcade.

Law enforcement sources say Secret Service personnel first spotted Marx as he walked near 15th Street and Independence Avenue SW while Vance’s motorcade was moving through the area. Agents reportedly noticed what appeared to be the outline of a handgun concealed beneath his clothing, immediately raising alarm among security personnel assigned to protect the vice president.
