Chicagoans are being mugged by reality.
Alderman Anthony Beale of Chicago is upset that the city is giving undocumented immigrants benefits worth $9,000 a month, which include housing and food vouchers. Beale quips that he would be tempted to relocate to Chicago in order to take advantage of those benefits as well.

This is one of the main causes of the issue. Because the city offers these resources, people without documentation are being encouraged to relocate there.

Alderman Anthony Beale of Chicago opposes the free resources that City Hall provides to undocumented immigrants. He contends that the substantial welfare benefits given to people who cross the border act as an alluring lure for others to follow them here.
Undocumented immigrants receive over $9,000 a month in various forms of assistance, such as childcare, housing vouchers, food, education, legal aid, and more, according to information Beale disclosed in a recent speech to the Chicago City Council.
“Now, I’ve said this before. If you give me 3 meals, housing, childcare, education, a voucher for $9,000. You know what? I’d come to Chicago too,” he said during a floor debate.
“And that’s what they’re doing. They’re telling people and they’re sending money back to Chicago — I mean, back to Venezuela — to come to Chicago because they’re saying, hey, the good times are rolling there. They’re taking care of everybody,” he continued.
