A violent encounter on the streets of Chicago ended with one alleged attacker fighting for his life after a legally armed citizen opened fire in self-defense, according to police.
The incident unfolded Sunday in the city’s North Lawndale neighborhood, where a 23-year-old man reportedly found himself confronted by two individuals. What began as an apparent street confrontation quickly escalated into a physical attack, prompting the armed resident to defend himself with a firearm.
According to NBC Chicago, police confirmed that the citizen involved in the shooting possessed both a valid Illinois Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) card and a concealed carry permit.
Authorities said the armed man fired his weapon after being attacked by the two individuals. One of the alleged assailants was struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
