Janice Sims’s terrifying story of her daughter’s terrifying experience is captured by CBS News.

“If you see all those bullet holes and only one hit my child. That’s a miracle.” She added, “Angels covered her. God covered my daughter. Thank you, Lord.”

The car was reportedly approached by four males. With their firearms drawn, Jaquita and her colleague entered the car at around 4:40 a.m. and insisted that the two get out. To the Chicago Sun Times, she recounted the event. “I started screaming my coworker’s name out.”

Sims’s partner bravely pulled his sidearm and expended all of his ammunition to repel the invaders, setting off an exciting shootout. Taking offense, the attackers opened fire with at least twenty rounds, leaving the car covered in bullets.

“They wanted to carjack them,” Sims said. “They just shot the car up maybe 20 times.”

Sims and her coworker were hurt when the perpetrators ran away. Sims sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and her coworker’s thigh was just slightly hurt. Sims drove them to a neighboring hospital despite their wounds. Sims remembers clearly being unconscious in the midst of the turmoil, her coworker yelling her name anxiously, but Sims was unable to answer.

Witnesses and Chicago Police provide different versions of what happened during a shooting. The victim maintains that they began firing as soon as her colleague drew out his firearm, despite the police’s assertion that the attackers fired in reaction to a missed shot. At the core of the dispute is the coworker, who is allegedly equipped with a legitimate FOID card and a concealed-carry license. Get the complete narrative by clicking this link.

The bullet in Sims’ body could not be removed by doctors. She will thus need to keep it in her breast in order to prevent more damage.

“I don’t bother nobody, I’m a good person, I go to church,” Sims told reporters. “I go to work, and I make a living for my family, and that’s it.” She said that she is still in shock and has had flashbacks of the incident, and that her family is often checking to see whether she is breathing.

“My mom and my sister have to help me in and out [of] the bed, they have to feed me. … They have to do everything for me because my right arm is not working,” Sims explained. “I can’t work, I can’t do nothing. They took a lot from me.”

Jaquita told the Sun-Times that, despite not having spoken to her brave coworker, she was informed by her sister that he was “doing OK and was just shaken up and scared to go to work.”
