At a time when most college graduation speeches aim to inspire and uplift, CBS’s Scott Pelley chose to use his podium at Wake Forest University for a full-blown tirade—targeting former President Trump, media accountability, and free speech. Instead of celebrating student achievement, the “60 Minutes” host launched into a gloomy sermon on how journalism, academia, and democracy are allegedly under siege.
“In this moment, this moment, this morning, our sacred rule of law is under attack. Journalism is under attack. Universities are under attack. Freedom of speech is under attack,” Pelley declared.
Let’s be honest—there was no mystery about who he blamed. This was a not-so-veiled swipe at Donald Trump and anyone daring to question the mainstream media’s crumbling credibility. It seems Pelley, whose network has been hemorrhaging viewers and leadership alike, is now sounding the alarm that his brand of partisan journalism is facing its reckoning.
Continuing his doomsday message, Pelley added:
“Insidious fear is reaching through our schools, our businesses, our homes, and into our private thoughts. The fear to speak in America!”
