“My message has been from the beginning,” Hegseth responded. “We’re taking nothing off the table. Nothing. We will do whatever it takes to secure the homeland, to maintain our sovereignty, and protect the American people.”
Cartels have been pumping the U.S. full of deadly fentanyl, produced with chemical precursors shipped from China. Their operations have only grown stronger, but now they face the real possibility of military intervention.
Ingraham didn’t hold back, asking, “Does that mean you’re ruling out potential strikes inside of Mexico on fentanyl labs? We know they exist. We know where they exist.”
Hegseth’s answer was as clear as it was ominous. “No, I don’t think I ruled anything out. Anything’s on the table,” he stated. “The Commander-in-Chief, ultimately, with my consultation and with the chairman and others, will make those determinations. But nothing’s off the table. Our sovereignty will be defended.”
A Military Response Is on the Table
The Trump administration is actively considering military action against the cartels. The idea isn’t just talk—it’s being discussed at the highest levels of government. And if the cartels make one wrong move, it could trigger a decisive response.
Tom Homan, Trump’s “Border Czar” and former ICE director, has made it clear that attacking U.S. troops would be a fatal mistake for the cartels.
“I think the cartels would be foolish to take on the military, but we know they’ve taken on the Mexican military before, but now we have the United States military,” Homan told ABC News Live.
The cartels are already feeling the financial squeeze under Trump’s policies. With the border tightening, their record-breaking profits are taking a hit. Desperate and violent, they may escalate their attacks—but doing so could spell their destruction.
“Do I expect violence to escalate? Absolutely, because the cartels are making record amounts of money,” Homan explained. “We’re taking money out of their pocket.”
The Cartels’ Red Line
Cartel violence against U.S. authorities has already begun. Border Patrol agents have come under fire from the Mexican side of the border. An internal Homeland Security memo even warned that cartels might start using weaponized drones packed with explosives to attack U.S. agents.

If the cartels cross the line and harm U.S. soldiers, Homan has a chilling warning.
“The wrath of President Trump’s going to come down,” he declared. “He has the ability to wipe them off the face of the Earth.”
With Trump back in charge and his administration laser-focused on border security, the cartels are now facing a level of resistance they haven’t seen in years. The message from Washington is crystal clear: If they escalate, they will be met with overwhelming force.
The days of unchecked cartel dominance are coming to an end.
