A Dangerous Disruption at the Border
These jammers work by overwhelming the frequency used to control the drones, essentially severing the connection between the unmanned aircraft and the remote pilot. This technology gives cartels the ability to blind Border Patrol agents, making it easier to smuggle drugs, weapons, and human traffickers across the southern border.
Brandon Judd, president of the Border Patrol Union, issued a stark warning: Mexican cartels now have access to more advanced technology than the United States. This disturbing reality underscores just how emboldened these criminal organizations have become.
Signal Jammers—A Global Tool for Criminal Enterprises
While the use of signal jammers at the U.S.-Mexico border is shocking, criminal syndicates worldwide have long employed similar devices. Will Tanner, an attorney and commentator known for his analysis of South Africa’s decline, drew a chilling parallel. In one viral post, Tanner detailed how attackers in South Africa use jammers to isolate white farmers before carrying out brutal home invasions.
“As most know by now, farm attacks against Boers are utterly horrific and generally encouraged by the South African government,” Tanner wrote.
One South African source explained that criminals utilize these devices for hijackings, cash-in-transit heists, and home invasions. These jammers block all incoming and outgoing signals—including cell phones, radios, and some security cameras—within a 25- to 100-meter radius.
“The reason they use them for farm attacks is that a lot of farmers are out of the community safety initiative and they rely on radios to be able to call for help to one another, to come and assist,” the source added.
While the United States is not yet experiencing the same level of chaos seen in South Africa, Tanner warned that the ingredients for similar lawlessness exist. He pointed to the rise of violent gangs like MS-13 within U.S. borders and the Biden administration’s apparent unwillingness to crack down on these criminal elements.

Trump Takes Action—Military Deployed to Border
Unlike his predecessor, Trump is not sitting idly by. His administration has begun deploying military forces to the southern border to confront this growing threat. However, the reality remains that, after four years of unchecked cartel expansion, the battle will be far more challenging than before.
The nation now waits to see just how deeply embedded these cartels have become—and whether Trump’s hardline approach will be enough to counter their advanced technological warfare. One thing is certain: ignoring the problem any longer is no longer an option.
