Bureau of Labor Statistics: Late Paychecks for National Guard

President Joe Biden’s administration failed to give National Guard members their final payment for 2020 during the holiday season, which put thousands of people in a difficult financial situation. A letter issued to these people that expressed sadness and dismay at this development was obtained by The Post Millennial.

Congress eventually reached an agreement on a mammoth $1.7 trillion spending measure after weeks of contentious discussions. This bill includes increased aid for Ukraine totalling around $111 billion in public funds, but it also resulted in delays in National Guard soldiers’ salaries. In addition to providing much-needed funds to our allies in Ukraine during these tumultuous times, the agreement is expected to provide relief and financial support both domestically through government programs like healthcare, education initiatives, funding the military, and infrastructure projects as well as internationally.

Congress was able to negotiate and pass a short-term budget resolution on Friday night, avoiding the dreaded government shutdown after a week of political brinkmanship. The CR will sustain crucial services for citizens across the country while giving both chambers additional time to come to an agreement.

The massive, 4,155-page bill finally made it from Congress to President Biden’s desk for final ratification after a long and arduous trip. The House of Representatives immediately followed suit on Friday morning, providing the go-ahead for implementation after the Senate voted on Thursday night to enact this important piece of legislation.

The National Guard personnel were sent a letter explaining that there has been a persistent “pay issue that has been afflicting the unit and the division as well.”

The troops were upset since they had anticipated receiving payment today, but instead of their well-deserved pay, they had only been given Leave and Earning Statements, serving as a reminder that despite their best efforts, they had received no compensation.

Due to a problem at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), which might be connected to the Continuing Resolution, millions of Americans are experiencing pay issues. Numerous workers countrywide have experienced payment delays due to this widespread issue, which has put many families in America in a difficult financial situation.

In the letter, it is stated that the National Guard Bureau was “not made aware of the issue” prior to Friday but that they are “actively working the issue with DFAS time now.” They believe that “today or tomorrow” the paycheck issue will be resolved.

“This is regrettable and can lead to significant problems and annoyance throughout the formation, both of which are understandable. In particular, two days before Christmas,” the letter said. “I think the messaging is important that it’s understood the issues are at the highest levels and that everyone in the Division and State are pushing for immediate resolution”
