Vance and Johnson Just Made Their Move

Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson are ramping up efforts to push one of President Donald Trump’s signature election reform proposals across the finish line, signaling that Republicans are determined to make the SAVE America Act a centerpiece of their legislative agenda ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

After months of uncertainty surrounding the bill’s future, the renewed push suggests GOP leaders are not backing away from the issue. Instead, they are exploring every available avenue to move the legislation through Congress, even as it faces significant procedural obstacles in the Senate.

The latest development came Wednesday when Vice President Vance met with Speaker Johnson during a House Republican conference meeting. The two leaders discussed a strategy centered on the Republican reconciliation package, which party leaders believe offers the best opportunity to advance the SAVE America Act despite Democratic opposition in the upper chamber.
