Throughout the four-week trial, prosecutors said that Bankman-Fried secretly transferred millions of dollars from client assets to Alameda Research, using it as his personal bank account.

Bankman-Fried sent lavish gifts to his family, made lavish real estate investments, and contributed millions of dollars to his preferred political candidates.

The Democrats received millions in covert donations from the deposed cryptocurrency tycoon, Bankman-Fried. He channeled an astounding $38 million to the Protect Our Future PAC in the 2022 midterm election season, making him one of the biggest political donors. This powerful group donated $27 million to help Democrats win hotly fought House seats.

“This was a pyramid of deceit built by the defendant on a foundation of lies and false promises, all to get money,” In closing arguments, Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Roos informed the court. “And eventually it collapsed, leaving countless victims in its wake.”

Caroline Ellison, the head of Alameda Research, testified sadly in court that her ex-boyfriend Bankman-Fried had planned a scam that resulted in the disappearance of nearly $8 million in customer monies.

According to Ellison, Bankman-Fried was “the one who set up the systems that allowed Alameda to take the money, and he was the one who directed us to take customer money to repay our loans.”

Bankman-Fried made all of the important decisions at Alameda Research, Ellison told the court, despite her formal leadership of the company. “I handled a lot of day-to-day decisions and responsibilities in Alameda,” she testified. “But for any major decisions, I would always run them by Sam, and I would always defer to Sam if he thought that we should do something.”

Imprisoned in Brooklyn till 2024. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York while he awaits his second trial on four additional counts.
