Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy is focusing on fulfilling a pre-midterm vow to completely remove Ilhan Omar from her committee assignment after successfully replacing Reps. Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff on the House Intel Committee due to worries about national security.
Contrary to rumors, Omar’s expulsion from the House Foreign Affairs Committee is less probable since his argument is less compelling than that of Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell. Due to their role in leaking false material during the Russia Hoax probe, particularly Swalwell’s dubious link with Fang Fang, the two were expelled from the House Intelligence Committee.

Rep. Omar and the Republican Party are at odds, and they’re trying to get back at her for similar sanctions against Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar that were all based on baseless accusations of “anti-Semitism.” There are signs that tensions in Washington, D.C., are growing swiftly and that a solution is not in the cards.
McCarthy’s role as the GOP Caucus leader will be tested in this circumstance because he must get a nearly unanimous vote for a response to Rep. Omar, which will be a difficult effort given his party’s slim majority in Congress.

Rep. Victoria Spartz gave Speaker McCarthy her backing on the Ilhan Omar problem in exchange for her agreement to an appeals procedure in the event that a member was ever expelled. Rep. Spartz responded by expressing her agreement in a statement, indicating that the plan had been effective in persuading them to approve the proposition.
“As to my fellow conservatives, I think setting a precedent of allowing an appeal process for the Speaker’s and majority-party removal decisions is particularly important to freedom-loving legislators who usually are on the receiving end of issues like this.”
A resolution to remove Rep. Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee was created in response to her contentious history of anti-Semitic statements and the downplaying of terrorism. Examples include offensive language that downplays serious crimes like 9/11 and paints Israel with an extreme brush, igniting outrage among MPs who unanimously voted to have her removed.
“Whereas on February 10, 2019, Representative Ilhan Omar suggested that Jewish people and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) were buying political support, saying, “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby,” leading to condemnation from Republicans and Democrats alike for her use of an anti-Semitic trope;”
“Whereas in March 2019, Representative Omar trivialized the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, that killed 2,977 people by describing it as ‘‘some people did something’’”
“Whereas on June 7, 2021, Representative Omar equated the United States and Israel with Hamas and the Taliban by stating ‘‘We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban’’, establishing a false equivalency between Israel—which has the right and responsibility to protect itself and its citizens from all forms of terrorism—and Hamas, a foreign terrorist organization actively engaged in committing war crimes, including using civilians as human shields, which is banned under customary international humanitarian law;”
If Spartz doesn’t alter their position once again, Speaker McCarthy has the chance to get vengeance on Rep. Omar by removing her from the Committee, which would represent a substantial change in the balance of power.
