During questioning over why the federal government is resisting efforts to unseal the grand jury proceedings, Attorney General Pam Bondi dropped a bombshell: the only individuals to testify were “an FBI agent and a New York Police Department officer.” That’s it—no victims, no whistleblowers, no co-conspirators.
The Department of Justice, reportedly acting under directives from President Donald Trump, has moved to make these secret grand jury transcripts public. The push involves cases that originated in both Florida and New York. However, federal judges are dragging their feet. The Southern District of Florida already denied Trump’s request outright, while the Southern District of New York is stalling—asking whether the witnesses are even still alive.
In a Tuesday court filing, interim U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton set the record straight: “Both witnesses are still alive; the FBI agent continues to be an agent with the FBI, and the Detective continues to be a Detective with the NYPD as well as a Task Force Officer.” That detail is vital—because it removes the primary excuse for keeping the documents buried.
