The governor of Oklahoma is urging transparency among public servants and requiring that they uphold local laws and values, especially those who serve in law enforcement. Unfortunately, not everyone has been living up to these expectations; this problem has now caught the notice of Oklahoma’s governor and triggered action.
The McCurtain Gazette-News recently dropped a bombshell by disclosing a three-hour-plus audio recording. On April 6th at a county commissioners meeting, the conversation between Sheriff Kevin Clardy, County Commissioner Mark Jennings, and Investigator Alicia Manning was overheard on the track, sending shockwaves around the country about what secrets they may have discovered!

Jennings, Clardy, and Manning may be heard discussing Bruce and Chris Willingham, father and son reporters, at this point in the audio. After a commissioner’s meeting, Bruce left a voice-activated recorder in the space because he believed they had broken the state’s open meeting law. Manning referred to the individuals as “insignificant,” but Jennings claimed to be aware of their whereabouts. “Two big deep holes.” Sheriff’s response is that he has “an excavator.” Jennings adds that he has known a few hitmen who were exceptionally silent.
Black folks are also discussed in the group. Jennings mentions thrashing them and locking them away. In response, the sheriff says, “It’s not like that no more.” Jennings said he would like to lynch black people in a nearby stream but is unable to do so because “They got more rights than we got.”
Kevin Stitt, the governor of Oklahoma, vehemently condemned the officials’ remarks, calling them “horrid” and stating that such “hateful rhetoric” is not allowed in Oklahoma.
Former McCurtain County Sheriff Jennings left his position on April 18. Despite the resignation, the sheriff and investigator have not yet followed suit at the time of writing, and CNN has reported that a bitter argument over unlawfully obtained recordings is still raging between law enforcement officials and the local newspaper.
According to News 9, the FBI has opened an investigation into the matter.
