A major rift is erupting in the conservative movement, and at the center of the firestorm is former Secret Service agent and current FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino. His recent defense of the investigation — or lack thereof — into the July 13th assassination attempt on President Donald Trump has sparked outrage among many conservatives who once viewed him as a fearless insider willing to expose government corruption.
Bongino, who has long been a staple of conservative media and previously raised red flags about security lapses in the federal protective services, is now drawing fierce criticism for what many are calling an unacceptable whitewash of a national security failure.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Bongino made remarks that stunned many of his own supporters. Rather than demanding accountability or transparency for the terrifying breach at the Butler, Pennsylvania Trump rally, Bongino appeared to dismiss the widespread concerns of conservatives as unfounded speculation.
“You know what, Maria? Kash is not kidding. We’ve been personally briefed extensively on every single detail, nugget, and tendril of this case. One is actively in court right now, so out of respect for the case, it’s probably more appropriate that I stay quiet on that.”
