Ilhan Omar’s committee assignments were changed by House of Representatives legislators on Thursday as a result of her divisive prior comments on Jews and Israel. This action has created a contentious discussion among residents about the balance between freedom of expression and responsibility for comments said with malice.
Even though every Democrat opposed the measure, the Republicans prevailed with 218 “yay” votes to 210 “nay” votes.

“After years of unapologetic antisemitism and a startling lack of judgment on foreign policy, Democrat Ilhan Omar has been removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” the RNC Twitter account said, “Every Democrat opposed it.”
On Thursday, there were a lot of tense exchanges in the House as several lawmakers lost their cool.
As she responded passionately, representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez animatedly slammed her notepad on the floor of the House.
Due to her history of anti-Semitic sentiments, the Republican Party is working to deny Democrat Ilhan Omar a place on the Foreign Affairs committee. This move has sparked a heated discussion.
“Don’t tell me that this is about a condemnation of anti-Semitic remarks,” She yelled while defending her anti-Semitic Omar.
“This is about targeting women of color in the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez asserted in her out-of-control tirade.
The congressman slapped her paper onto the stage to deliver a stinging reprimand that ended her emotional speech.

Hakeen Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the House, has accused Omar of anti-Semitism, making her position critical. Omar might suffer serious consequences that could have long-term effects on her personal and professional lives.
“Now the other thing that’s going to occur today relates to this effort to remove, in a partisan fashion, Representative Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee after House Democrats unanimously voted for Ilhan to continue her service on the Foreign Affairs Committee,” Jeffries said.
“A refugee elected to the United States Congress, duly sent back to the House by her constituents in Minnesota. Now, Representative Omar certainly has made mistakes. She has used anti semitic tropes that were clearly and unequivocally condemned by House Democrats when it took place four years ago…” he said on Thursday.
