A federal judge issued a temporary block on EPA Chief Lee Zeldin’s effort to reclaim $20 billion from what many are calling the Biden administration’s massive environmental slush fund.
Judge Tanya Chutkan, an appointee of Barack Obama, ruled that Zeldin cannot currently take back the billions that remain parked at Citibank, set aside for eight so-called ‘green’ nonprofits. The decision keeps the funds frozen for now, preventing their redistribution while the case proceeds.

The $20 billion in question was previously allocated under the Biden administration’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). Zeldin moved to reclaim the money, citing a lack of oversight and transparency in how it was being distributed. Citibank agreed to halt any further transactions related to the eight nonprofits. However, Chutkan’s ruling puts that effort on hold.
