Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is once again facing backlash after a dramatic appearance at a rally in Alabama where she spoke about voting rights while standing behind a portable bulletproof shield.
The New York congresswoman appeared Saturday in Montgomery alongside left-wing activists protesting a recent Supreme Court ruling tied to congressional district maps and race-based redistricting. But instead of her speech dominating headlines, social media erupted over the unusual sight of a rolling transparent security barrier positioned directly in front of her while she addressed the crowd.
For critics, the image instantly became symbolic of what they see as modern progressive politics: theatrical outrage mixed with deep personal contradiction.
Conservatives online wasted no time mocking the setup.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez champions defunding the police, open borders, and abolishing ICE, yet she shields herself behind bulletproof glass,” one X commenter wrote.
“The hypocrisy is hard to ignore.”
