But the rot went deeper. The gang had embedded itself within the illicit sex trade running rampant on Roosevelt Avenue—an area locals have nicknamed the “Red Light District” due to the open solicitation and underground brothels that have overtaken the neighborhood.
Instead of resembling a vibrant New York community, Roosevelt Avenue has been reduced to scenes you’d expect in a failed state. Food carts selling unlicensed goods clog the sidewalks, while women openly sell sex in plain sight. At one recent town hall, Fox News Digital counted over 30 women soliciting in broad daylight—just steps away from where AOC was supposed to be listening to constituents.
As rival gangs were cleared out in earlier operations, the 18th Street gang’s “54 Tiny Locos” clique swept in to seize control. Their tactics were pure brutality: using graffiti to mark their turf and extreme violence to enforce their rule.
One incident involved smashing a man in the face with a tequila bottle. In another, a victim was pinned down and stabbed in the lung. Not long after, a rival gang member was beaten with a metal chair and a bike lock. And yet through all this, the representative for the district remained astonishingly silent.
While Queens residents were living in fear, AOC was off grandstanding about “fighting oligarchy” and promoting her socialist agenda. Back at home, it was federal law enforcement—not AOC—who finally stepped in to restore order.
Former state Senator Hiram Monserrate didn’t hold back, stating, “As our Restore Roosevelt Avenue coalition stated months ago, what was and is still happening on Roosevelt Avenue is international organized crime involving human trafficking, shoplifting syndicates and the distribution of narcotics.”
Even those who once supported AOC are speaking out. Ramon Ramirez Baez, a Democrat and former supporter, said, “She only defends the socialist agenda, which is not for the American people.” He added bluntly, “She doesn’t understand what socialism means.”
Mayor Eric Adams’ office also confirmed that AOC never even bothered to reach out for updates on the law enforcement operation. “She really has been radio silent,” said Adams’ press secretary. “She hasn’t even reached out for an update on the operation.”
Meanwhile, “Operation Restore Roosevelt,” led by a coalition of federal and local agencies, has delivered results AOC couldn’t dream of. Since October 2024, over 2,500 arrests have been made. Crime in the area is down 28%. Fifteen brothels have been shuttered—including one shockingly located above a bodega near two elementary schools.
Inspectors have issued 18 vacate orders and removed nearly 100 propane tanks from illegal vendors. Most importantly, the federal prosecution of the 18th Street gang is now underway, with members facing charges ranging from racketeering to firearms trafficking.
U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. made the stakes clear: “This indictment represents a significant step in our ongoing effort to dismantle violent gang networks in our communities. The 18th Street gang exploited a Queens neighborhood as a hub for violence and illicit activity.”
And through it all—AOC has stayed quiet. No press conference. No community meeting. Not even a statement.
This is the same Congresswoman who has called for abolishing ICE—the very agency that played a central role in taking down violent criminals in her own district. The same lawmaker who pushed to defund the police while gangs ran wild just blocks from local schools.
Rep. Grace Meng, whose district also covers part of the Roosevelt Avenue corridor, at least had the decency to respond: “Public safety must always be a top priority in our communities and dangerous criminals who commit violent crimes must be held accountable.”
The contrast couldn’t be clearer.
Thanks to the tireless work of federal agents, one of the most dangerous gangs in New York has been dismantled. But the question remains: how much longer will residents of Queens tolerate a representative more interested in TV cameras and Twitter likes than protecting their neighborhoods?
AOC’s silence speaks volumes—and her district is paying the price.
