For decades, Democratic strategists worked to keep the word “socialist” at arm’s length. Now, one of the party’s best-known political operators is warning Democrats that they may be heading straight toward the label they once tried so hard to avoid.
James Carville, the veteran strategist who helped guide Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign, is sounding a warning about the direction of his party. His concern comes as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has once again become formally affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, while conversations about the 2028 presidential race are already beginning.
For Democrats worried about winning back voters in the political center, the timing could hardly be more uncomfortable.
