ABC Anchor ADMITS: Trump’s DC Crackdown Delivers

President Donald Trump’s decision to place Washington, D.C. under federal control — following his declaration of a “crime emergency” — has sparked a firestorm of debate. While Democrats and left-wing pundits try to downplay the move, residents and even members of the press are openly admitting what has long been obvious: the nation’s capital has a serious crime problem that statistics alone cannot hide.

ABC News anchor Kyra Phillips proved the point during a live segment just hours after Trump’s declaration. She shocked viewers by revealing that she herself had been assaulted on the streets of D.C. “within the last two years.” The incident happened just two blocks away from her news studio.

Official police data claims crime in the city has declined since 2023, but the stories coming out of D.C. tell another side of the truth. Phillips noted that multiple colleagues at ABC’s Washington bureau have also been crime victims.

“We’ve been talking so much about the numbers and yeah, usually that’s how you play devil’s advocate, is you talk about, ‘Oh, well stats say crime is down.’ However, I can tell you firsthand here in downtown D.C. where we work right here around our bureau just in the past six months, you know, there were two people shot,” Phillips said. “One person died literally two blocks down here from the bureau.”
