Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-IL), a vocal opponent of immigration enforcement, fumed over the arrest.
“In my district, ICE ambushed a parent while dropping off their child at school. No family should have to fear being torn apart in a safe place meant for learning,” Garcia raged in a post on X.
Garcia also boasted about supporting legislation that would ban ICE from making arrests near schools, hospitals, and places of worship—essentially making large sections of the city off-limits to immigration enforcement.
Local schools even issued statements, warning that students could be “stressed” by the event. Meanwhile, Chicago Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez joined the outrage, leading a rally outside the Chicago Public Schools headquarters.
“When parents are being grabbed from our schools, we must ask, what is Chicago Public Schools doing to protect our children?” Lopez demanded.
The Chicago Teachers Union couldn’t pass up the opportunity to turn the moment into an anti-Trump tirade.
“His children watched as their daddy was put in handcuffs by agents carrying out the orders of a tyrant President,” CTU official Hilario Dominguez declared.
There was just one problem with their outrage.
The “victim” in this case wasn’t an innocent father. He was a violent gang member with a criminal rap sheet.
ICE Arrested a Dangerous Criminal—And Democrats Were Outraged
ICE took 37-year-old Francisco Andrade-Berrera, an illegal alien from Mexico, into custody.
Andrade-Berrera wasn’t some harmless family man. He had been deported twice before. His criminal record included narcotics trafficking, gang loitering, and property damage.
In 2023, he was caught buying five ounces of cocaine with the intent to distribute. He was sentenced to three years of supervised probation and served only two weeks in jail.
ICE made it clear that Andrade-Berrera wasn’t just another illegal immigrant—he was a serious threat.
“Andrade is a known member of a violent street gang with criminal convictions for drug trafficking, gang loitering, and damage to property who was previously removed from the U.S. to his home country in 2005 and 2013,” ICE confirmed in a statement.
Despite these facts, Chicago Democrats were more concerned about protecting him than the safety of their own communities.
Democrats Play Politics, Ignore the Facts
Former Riverside, Illinois Police Chief Tom Weitzel called out the hysteria, accusing Democrats of manipulating the narrative for political gain.
“They’re going to put out anything that benefits their agenda, benefits their narrative, or benefits their political agenda,” Weitzel explained. “So they just look at this as a President Trump initiative to just go around the country and just scoop people off the sidewalks and out of our schools. And that isn’t the case.”

Weitzel further dismantled their claims, setting the record straight.
“There hasn’t been one single case in the United States where ICE has gone into a school and removed somebody forcibly from the school,” he said. “That is completely false.”
Democrats in Chicago would rather have a violent gang member walking their streets than deport him.
Tom Homan has said it before—Democrats are making America less safe by shielding criminals from deportation. And this case proves he’s right.
Once again, Democrats picked a fight with the wrong man. And once again, they were humiliated.
