Chaos erupted inside MSNBC after a leaked internal meeting confirmed the cancellation of “The ReidOut,” hosted by Joy Reid. Staffers were blindsided when news of their show’s demise hit the media before leadership informed them, sparking outrage and a demand for answers.
Rebecca Kutler, the newly appointed president of MSNBC, hastily arranged a virtual meeting with Reid’s team following the leak. But that meeting, meant to address concerns, was itself secretly recorded and leaked to the press. Former CNN reporter Oliver Darcy obtained the audio and revealed staffers’ frustration, saying, “Staffers expressed frustration and disbelief, outraged that they had learned of their show’s fate from reports in the press rather than leadership. Others demanded answers about the reasoning behind the cancellation of ‘The ReidOut’ and what it meant for their futures at the network.”

During the meeting, Kutler confirmed that “the entire staff had been laid off” but assured them severance pay would continue through April. She encouraged them to apply for other jobs within the network, emphasizing the availability of over 100 new positions being posted that week. But that did little to ease their concerns.
