Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has admitted to what he now sees as a glaring lapse in judgment—his association with disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Gates candidly acknowledged his interactions with Epstein as a “huge mistake” and admitted he was “foolish” to have spent time with him.

The meetings, which reportedly took place to explore potential philanthropic ventures, have long been a subject of controversy. Reflecting on his actions, Gates conceded, “In retrospect, I was foolish to spend any time with him. I think I was quite stupid. I thought it would help me with global health philanthropy. In fact, it failed to do that. It was just a huge mistake.”

Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, had previously positioned himself as a power broker for influential figures, including Gates. However, the billionaire’s regret over their association is evident, as he told the Journal that he has since become far more cautious about his connections. “Definitely. I mean, are you kidding?” he remarked when asked about lessons learned from the scandal.
