The star has long called for the working class to embrace sacrifices in the name of combating climate change. Yet, his lifestyle seems to suggest that such rules don’t apply to the ultra-rich.
While his Los Angeles community battles life-altering devastation caused by the wildfires, DiCaprio was reportedly seen exiting a private jet in Mexico. Sporting a hoodie and baseball cap, the 50-year-old actor appeared relaxed alongside Ceretti, 26, who donned an all-black outfit. Also present were DiCaprio’s father, George DiCaprio, and stepmother, Peggy Ann Farrar.
The Daily Mail noted:
“Leonardo DiCaprio and his model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti were spotted arriving in Mexico on a private jet amid the devastating LA fires.”
This isn’t the first time the actor has been criticized for indulging in carbon-heavy travel. In 2016, DiCaprio took a private jet on an 8,000-mile round trip from Cannes to New York to accept an environmental award. Two years earlier, he reportedly used private jets six times within six weeks, traveling between Los Angeles and New York.
The public scrutiny around DiCaprio’s actions stems from the stark contrast between his words and deeds. His foundation claims to have distributed over $80 million in grants for environmental causes, and in 2021, the actor reportedly flew commercially to the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow in an effort to reduce his carbon footprint.
Despite these occasional measures, the actor continues to partake in high-emission activities, including yachting and jet-setting. Critics argue that these choices undermine the very causes he advocates.
One environmental commentator noted, “It’s hard to take someone seriously about reducing carbon emissions when they’re disembarking a private jet during a climate disaster.”
DiCaprio’s history of carbon-intensive behavior has fueled skepticism about Hollywood’s commitment to environmental causes. The industry as a whole has often been criticized for promoting green initiatives while living extravagantly.

In light of the recent fires, the timing of DiCaprio’s luxury getaway couldn’t be worse. As ordinary families evacuate and face uncertain futures, the image of a self-proclaimed climate champion jetting off for leisure feels particularly tone-deaf.
The wildfire crisis in Los Angeles is a sobering reminder of the urgent need for climate action. Yet, it also highlights the hypocrisy of those who preach sustainability while ignoring their own contributions to the problem. As DiCaprio continues to champion environmental causes on a global stage, many are left asking whether his actions truly align with his message—or if it’s just more Hollywood lip service.
Whether intentional or not, the mixed signals from one of climate activism’s most prominent voices risk undermining the credibility of the very movement he seeks to lead.
