Hunter Biden Case: IRS Whistleblowers Expose ‘Slow-Walking’

House Republicans intensified their scrutiny of President Joe Biden on Wednesday, summoning IRS whistleblowers to testify about alleged interference by the Justice Department in a tax investigation involving Hunter Biden. The hearing marked the first public testimony by the whistleblowers and extended Republican efforts to uncover potential corruption within the Biden family’s finances, despite a lack of conclusive evidence.

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., heard six hours of testimony from IRS supervisory special agent Greg Shapley and agent Joe Ziegler. Both agents alleged that investigative steps into Hunter Biden’s tax case were deliberately delayed. Shapley claimed there was a pattern of “slow-walking investigative steps,” even during the Trump administration, raising concerns about political bias.

One of the most striking allegations came from Shapley, who asserted that U.S. Attorney David Weiss, the federal prosecutor leading the case, sought special counsel status to pursue charges in jurisdictions beyond Delaware but was denied. Weiss and the Justice Department have denied these claims, insisting Weiss had full authority to prosecute the case. “We will continue to follow the money trail,” Comer pledged at the outset of the session.
