O’Brien detailed an interaction between a Teamsters representative and Harris that he found particularly troubling. “One of my vice presidents… was at an event with Vice President Harris. They’re going through the line to get a picture and she introduces herself to Vice President Harris. She says she’s on the general executive board for the Teamsters. She goes, ‘Teamsters? You better get on board. You better get on board soon,’” O’Brien recounted.
The comments did not sit well with union leadership. According to O’Brien, the encounter led to tense discussions within the Teamsters and influenced their stance toward Harris. “I call up Marty Walsh, who was the secretary of labor… I said, ‘Let me ask you a question, Marty. Who does this lady think she is? If I want support from any organization, I am not going to point my finger in someone’s face and say you’d better get on board or else,’” he recalled.
O’Brien also shared further examples of what he described as Harris’s dismissive attitude toward organized labor. He accused Harris’s campaign team of attempting to limit the number of questions she would answer during a union roundtable and cutting the session short. “Her declaration on the way out was, ‘I’m going to win with you or without you.’ She said that out loud. It was insane behavior,” O’Brien remarked, adding that this conduct convinced him Harris’s campaign was doomed to fail.
