“In the months prior to Hutchinson’s explosive private and public testimony, Cheney communicated with Hutchinson, both directly and through an intermediary—Alyssa Farah Griffin—while Hutchinson was represented by her attorney, Stefan Passantino,” the subcommittee’s report detailed.
These communications, critics argue, raise questions about potential interference in the integrity of witness testimony.
Cheney Responds, Calls Report ‘Fabricated Lies’
Cheney, visibly rattled, responded to the allegations via the left-leaning social media platform Bluesky. In her statement, Cheney vehemently denied the accusations and launched a counterattack against Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), accusing him of distorting the facts.
“January 6th showed Donald Trump for who is [sic] really is – a cruel and vindictive man who allowed violent attacks to continue against our Capitol and law enforcement officers while he watched television and refused for hours to instruct his supporters to stand down and leave,” Cheney wrote.
She defended the work of the January 6th Committee, highlighting the extensive evidence gathered, including an 800-page report and numerous transcripts. Cheney dismissed the Oversight Subcommittee’s findings as politically motivated.
“Chairman Loudermilk’s ‘Interim Report’ intentionally disregards the truth and the Select Committee’s tremendous weight of evidence, and instead fabricated lies and defamatory allegations in an attempt to cover up what Donald Trump did,” Cheney added. “Their allegations do not reflect a review of the actual evidence and are a malicious and cowardly assault on the truth.”

Trump Calls for Legal Action
Trump, however, remained undeterred by Cheney’s denials. In a recent interview with NBC’s Kristen Walker, he accused Cheney and other members of the January 6th Committee of abusing their power to persecute his supporters.
“Cheney was behind it and so was Bennie Thompson and everybody on that committee, for what they did, honestly, they should go to jail,” Trump stated.
Despite his strong rhetoric, Trump clarified that any decision to pursue charges against Cheney and others would rest with his prospective Attorney General and FBI Director.
Political Showdown Looms
The allegations against Cheney have reignited political tensions surrounding the January 6th Committee and its findings. While Cheney’s defenders point to the extensive documentation and bipartisan testimony presented by the committee, Trump and his allies argue that the investigation was a politically driven witch hunt aimed at silencing dissent.
As the legal and political fallout continues, both Trump and Cheney appear poised to use this controversy to bolster their respective narratives, setting the stage for an intensifying battle over accountability and truth.
