Under Ohio law, Republican Governor Mike DeWine holds the authority to appoint a replacement for Vance, who will serve until a special election in 2026. The winner of that election will complete the remainder of Vance’s term, ending in 2028. Whoever succeeds in 2028 would then face voters again to secure a full six-year term.
