The aftermath of the 2024 election has brought a reckoning for media outlets, particularly those seen as cheerleaders for the Democratic Party. Among them, MSNBC faces one of its toughest battles yet, with plummeting ratings raising questions about the network’s future viability.

MSNBC and CNN have long been known for their liberal leanings, but the 2024 election seems to have dealt them a devastating blow. Ratings for both networks have reached their lowest point in three decades. MSNBC, in particular, suffered a catastrophic 53% drop, while CNN saw its viewership shrink by nearly 40%. Even more concerning for MSNBC, its ratings still show signs of further decline.

Adding insult to injury, a newer contender in cable news, NewsNation, is already outperforming MSNBC in key demographics. Despite being less than four years old and only recently adding 24-hour programming, NewsNation’s centrist approach is proving a hit with audiences. On a recent Saturday, NewsNation beat MSNBC in the coveted 25-54 age demographic for six consecutive hours, including a commanding 35% lead during the midday and afternoon slots.
