7-Year-Old Gone: Detainer Lift Leaves Family Devastated!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

What makes this tragedy even more infuriating is that Chacin should never have been on the streets. Back in June, Chacin was arrested for allegedly assaulting a family member. At the time, ICE placed a detainer on him, ensuring he could not be released on bond due to immigration violations.

However, after the felony assault charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, Chacin pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 113 days in jail—the exact amount of time he had already served. That same day, the ICE detainer was inexplicably lifted, allowing him to walk free.

Andy Kahan of Crime Stoppers expressed frustration over the situation, pointing out how this failure cost an innocent child her life. “He was taken into custody in June, there was immediately an ICE hold on him — he couldn’t bond out,” Kahan told KRIV. “The reason it was 113 days was because that was his time served. So basically, he pleaded guilty and walked out the door because the ICE hold was lifted the day he pleaded guilty.”

Kahan did not mince words when questioning the system’s breakdown: “Why was that hold lifted when he discharged his sentence? If he had kept that hold on him, no ifs, ands or buts, you have a 7-year-old girl who would be alive today and a mother who wasn’t seriously injured.”

The Smith family released a heart-wrenching statement, calling for accountability and stronger laws to prevent such tragedies in the future. “Why do we have holds in place if they fail to keep dangerous individuals off our streets? The laws in Texas should be designed to protect innocent lives, not to provide loopholes for those who repeatedly disregard them.”

They emphasized that their suffering could have been avoided had the detainer remained intact. “This tragedy is a stark reminder that we need stronger accountability and justice to prevent further suffering for families like ours.”

What are the best concealed carry holsters for ultimate security?

While Christina Quainoo has been released from the hospital, the physical and emotional toll remains devastating. Her daughter, Ivory, a bright and beloved second-grader, was laid to rest far too soon.

This case underscores a growing frustration across the nation about how immigration detainers are handled, especially for individuals who commit violent crimes. Time and time again, dangerous individuals are released due to systemic failures—only for innocent lives to pay the ultimate price.

As the immigration debate continues to dominate headlines, this tragedy stands as a sobering reminder of what is at stake. Lawmakers, law enforcement, and federal agencies must take urgent action to close these loopholes and ensure the safety of American families.

For now, a grieving mother is left to pick up the pieces of a shattered life, and a community mourns the loss of a little girl who should still be here today.
