Justice Jackson Blasts Gender Therapy Bans as Sexist!

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor sparked outrage during oral arguments Wednesday in a landmark case examining the constitutionality of Tennessee’s law prohibiting puberty blockers and hormone treatments for transgender minors. Her remarks, likening the risks of these treatments to “taking aspirin,” ignited a firestorm of criticism from conservatives and legal experts alike.

The Tennessee law, part of a broader national debate, aligns with policies in 24 states that have enacted similar measures restricting what is often called “gender-affirming care” for minors. These laws target the administration of puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and surgeries to children under 18. Critics argue these treatments carry irreversible consequences, while proponents claim they are vital for the well-being of transgender youth.

The case reached the Supreme Court after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit reversed a lower court’s ruling that had struck down the Tennessee law.
