In a chilling act of violence, Brian Thompson, CEO of the nation’s largest health insurance company, UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot early Wednesday morning in midtown Manhattan. The tragic incident unfolded around 6:45 a.m. as Thompson exited the Hilton Hotel, casting a shadow over the bustling city.
According to police reports, Thompson was struck multiple times in the chest by a masked gunman wearing a cream-colored jacket. Witnesses reported that the assailant fired from a distance before fleeing the scene down 6th Avenue. Emergency responders transported Thompson to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Thompson, a prominent figure in the health insurance industry, had been at the helm of UnitedHealthcare since 2021, earning a reported $10 million annually. On the morning of the shooting, Thompson was scheduled to address investors at a conference held at the Hilton Hotel.
