According to a report from the DailyMail on Monday, Walz, during a teaching assignment in China in 1989, was involved in a romantic relationship with the daughter of a high-ranking Communist Party official. The woman, Jenna Wang, now 59, has come forward with allegations about the affair that took place while Walz was teaching at a high school in Guangdong Province. Wang claims that Walz showered her with gifts and wooed her in secret, given the political sensitivities surrounding her father’s position in the Chinese Communist Party.

“Tim was very passionate and very romantic. I can still remember dancing with him to our favorite song, Careless Whisper,” Wang said. “The fact we couldn’t touch or kiss in public just made it all the more exciting and intense when we were finally alone. We were deeply in love and I wanted to marry him and start a family. When it didn’t happen, I felt very unhappy and sad. Tim’s behavior was very selfish.”
