In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact, Republican officials are voicing sharp criticism against the Biden-Harris administration, accusing them of neglecting the hardest-hit areas. The storm, which left over 170 people dead and hundreds still missing, is already being recognized as one of the strongest in recent history. Yet, many in the affected regions feel abandoned by the federal government.
Georgia’s Republican Governor, Brian Kemp, has emerged as one of the loudest voices of discontent. Speaking to WRDW, Kemp expressed frustration over the lack of immediate disaster relief for his state. Despite massive damage across 90 counties, only 11 were declared federal disaster zones. “A lot of people were outraged, including me, because there was such devastation,” Kemp said. “So we called the White House, spoke to the president’s chief of staff, the FEMA administrator, and said ‘Look, you’re sending the signal that you’re not paying attention.’”

Kemp’s remarks highlight growing concerns that the federal response to Hurricane Helene has been slow and insufficient.
