In a significant blow to Hunter Biden, a federal judge has rejected his last-ditch effort to avoid standing trial on tax evasion charges tied to his overseas business dealings. These charges have become a focal point in the Republican-led investigation into President Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s activities. The decision by U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi of Los Angeles marks a critical juncture, as it clears the path for a trial that is set to begin early next month.
Judge Scarsi’s ruling dismissed the defense’s attempts on multiple grounds. In a detailed seven-page conclusion, Scarsi noted that the arguments presented by Hunter Biden’s legal team were insufficient, both factually and procedurally. “As he concedes in his notice of the motion, Mr. Biden plainly seeks reconsideration of issues already decided upon his February motion,” Judge Scarsi stated, adding that there was “no valid basis for reconsideration of the court’s [prior] order denying Mr. Biden’s motion to dismiss the indictment.”
