America First Legal (AFL) has taken legal action against the New York District Attorney’s Office, accusing it of stonewalling a critical records request under the New York Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). This lawsuit stems from the office’s refusal to disclose documents related to District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s controversial prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
The lawsuit marks the latest chapter in AFL’s ongoing efforts to uncover potential political motivations behind the prosecution. In March 2023, AFL launched an investigation into the New York County District Attorney’s Office, seeking internal communications and other documents that could shed light on the decision to prosecute the former president. One notable piece of evidence cited by AFL is a statement from Democrat Political Operative Lanny Davis, who claimed responsibility for initiating the investigation in a statement to Politico.

“Davis’s claims might be puffery, but they provide an additional reason to believe that the District Attorney’s unusual interest in President Trump has been based on improper partisan considerations from the start,” AFL stated in a press release.
