In a bold statement this month, Elon Musk, the visionary behind Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink, has vocalized a significant push for electoral reform before the upcoming 2024 election. Leveraging his influential social media presence, Musk advocated for the elimination of electronic voting machines due to security vulnerabilities. His tweet, sparking widespread agreement, highlighted concerns over the potential for hacking by humans or artificial intelligence. “We should eliminate electronic voting machines. The risk of being hacked by humans or AI, while small, is still too high,” Musk asserted.
The tech mogul’s comments were in response to concerns raised by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent presidential candidate. Kennedy pointed out issues encountered during Puerto Rico’s primary elections, which suffered from numerous irregularities linked to electronic voting machines. Fortunately, these issues were identified and resolved due to the existence of a paper trail. “Puerto Rico’s primary elections just experienced hundreds of voting irregularities related to electronic voting machines, according to the Associated Press. Luckily, there was a paper trail so the problem was identified and vote tallies corrected,” RFK Jr. highlighted in his post.

Kennedy also stressed the dire need for a reliable voting system, especially in areas lacking a paper backup. “What happens in jurisdictions where there is no paper trail? US citizens need to know that every one of their votes were counted, and that their elections cannot be hacked. We need to return to paper ballots to avoid electronic interference with elections. My administration will require paper ballots, and we will guarantee honest and fair elections,” he stated.
