ALERT! Major Water Restrictions In Effect!

This was reported by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in 2002.

Speaking on behalf of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, Nathan Lewin characterized the court’s Jan. 23 judgments as “suspect” because of the tie that was not disclosed until only last month.

Lewin is representing the rabbis in a $11 million slander lawsuit filed by Borough Park resident Helen Chayie Sieger. She claims that by allowing her husband to remarry without demanding that he offer her a rabbinic divorce, they effectively painted her as a less-than-ideal wife.

Lewin said in court filings that the legal secretary, Arthur Engoron, claims he began dating Christopher Sullivan’s secretary on May 10. Lewin, however, expressed apprehension that Sullivan’s participation in the investigation may have been “influenced” by information supplied by the unnamed lady.

Lewin also said that Engoron “was drafting [later] decisions and communicating” While he was dating Sue, he discussed this matter with the court.

On July 1, after learning of the relationship, Schoenfeld resigned from the case at the defendants’ request. He told Lewin that he planned to submit any ethical issues created by Engoron’s actions to the appropriate authorities. Lewin asked the court to carry out a comprehensive inquiry and underlined the possible criminal ramifications of the activities in this instance.

Nothing noteworthy will come of this.
