Scandal Unfolds: Non-Violent Jan 6 Protester Charged!

In an ongoing effort to apprehend the January 6 Capitol protestors, the Biden DOJ has filed trespassing charges against Portland activist David Medina. The DOJ is vigorously seeking misdemeanor and criminal charges against people like Medina, who merely strolled through an open door, even though more than three years have passed.

Charges leveled against Medina comprise ““destruction of government property, entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.” Those are all minor offenses.

In addition, Medina faces a single felony allegation of “obstruction of an official proceeding,” a controversial accusation that stems from the Enron scandal. A large part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s accusation against Donald Trump in the January 6 case is based on this legal principle, which has led to the detention of many peaceful protestors in the Capitol.

During the Supreme Court’s ongoing assessment of the legislation, January 6 defendants have filed an increasing number of challenges for trial delays. Prosecutors are using the charge less frequently, but instances such as Medina’s still include it.
