The border agreement that Senate negotiators proposed on Sunday was chastised by former President Donald Trump on Monday.
“Only a fool, or a Radical Left Democrat, would vote for this horrendous Border Bill, which only gives Shutdown Authority after 5000 Encounters a day, when we already have the right to CLOSE THE BORDER NOW, which must be done,” Trump shared something on Truth Social.

“This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats, and a Death Wish for The Republican Party. It takes the HORRIBLE JOB the Democrats have done on Immigration and the Border, absolves them, and puts it all squarely on the shoulders of Republicans,” Trump wrote.
“Don’t be STUPID!!! We need a separate Border and Immigration Bill. It should not be tied to foreign aid in any way, shape, or form! The Democrats broke Immigration and the Border. They should fix it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” Trump wrote.
Rep. Mike Johnson repeated President Trump’s request, saying that the House would not take up the measure in its current form.
“I’ve seen enough. This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created. As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, ‘the border never closes.’ If this bill reaches the House, it will be dead on arrival,” Johnson posted on X.
The $118.3 billion plan, as reported by The New York Times, sets aside $10 billion for victims of international crises, including Palestinians, and authorizes $60.1 billion for military assistance to Ukraine and $14.1 billion for military support to Israel.
The law sets up $20 million for the southern border, with the goal of building more detention facilities and border patrol personnel.

The law includes a border closure mechanism that is activated by more than 5,000 interactions with migrants on a daily average or more than 8,500 encounters in a single day. The president may even decide to block the border if there are more than 4,000 interactions per day for a week.
A large number of Republicans opposed the measure.
The measure adds a new requirement to the asylum process: illegal immigrants requesting asylum must give a reason why they cannot relocate to a safer area of their home nations.
The measure produces 250,000 of what the Times referred as “green card-eligible family and employment-based visas that would be parceled out over five years” to illegal immigrants.
According to the Washington Times, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham warned Republicans on Sunday not to make snap decisions over the measure.
“I hope people keep an open mind,” Mr. Graham mentioned in a “Fox News Sunday” interview. “If you believe, as President Trump does, our laws are broken, then you got to fix them.”
