Republicans are pissing off one of their own, Senator James Lankford, and the political plains of Oklahoma are rumbling with unrest. His recent dance with Democrats to craft a border agreement has sparked a fierce discussion inside the GOP, especially on the hot-button issue of immigration.
In a tremendous struggle over the raging stream of unauthorized crossings at the famous US-Mexico border, Senator Lankford is the pivot. Leading a Senate agreement that emerges from the turbulent ashes of party conflict like a precious phoenix, the proposed agreement moves closer to being finalized. It seeks to provide the President an extensive range of authority specifically intended to put a stop to border violations amid Herculean migrant floods.

In a political turn of events that has Capitol Hill humming like a hornet’s nest, President Donald Trump’s outspoken opposition to a trade deal has split not just the nation but even his own party. With pressures building from all sides, it’s a high-stakes game that Trump is playing for double or nothing as his fellow Republicans writhe in their chairs. Word wars have broken out, but when the dust settles, one thing is certain: politics has never been this captivating, akin to a real-life drama series playing out in the dark hallways of the White House.
Nevertheless, other Republicans have taken issue with the decision, notably the former president Donald Trump, who has been outspoken in his criticism, arguing that a lousy agreement is worse than none at all.
WATCH:
The acts of Lankford have drawn the vehement censure of the Oklahoma Republican Party. According to a party resolution, he collaborated with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) on what they refer to as a “open border deal,” which they say will let up to 5,000 illegal immigrants into the country each day.
The resolution denounces Lankford for jeopardizing the security and safety of lawful immigrants pursuing citizenship as well as Americans. It even threatens to withhold all support from him until he adopts the party’s position, demanding that he stop acting in this manner.
Republican state senator Dusty Deevers revealed the language of a resolution criticizing Lankford for his role in the arrangement on X.

Roger Stone, a Trump backer, also attacked Lankford.
Despite the criticism, Lankford continues to see the trade favorably. In an interview with CBS News, he expressed confidence in the deal’s advantages and attributed the criticism to unsubstantiated online rumors.
According to three reliable sources cited by CBS News, the agreement is anticipated to provide the executive branch the power to temporarily halt asylum proceedings amid spikes in migrant crossings. Furthermore, it is prepared to broaden the scope of rapid deportation powers and increase the bar for admitting asylum claimants.
House Speaker Mike Johnson was commended by Trump for his unwavering opposition to the plan. “I think he’s going to prove to be a very good speaker. It’s tough when you have a very small majority. Very tough. Mike Johnson, speaker, he just said it’s dead on arrival in the House. Dead on arrival,” Trump explained.
“As the leader of our party, there is zero chance I will support this horrible, open borders betrayal of America. It’s not going to happen, and I’ll fight it all the way,” Trump stated during a Nevada speech.
“I notice a lot of the senators, a lot of the senators are trying to say, respectfully, they’re blaming it on me. I said that’s OK, please blame it on me. Please, because they were getting ready to pass a very bad bill. And I’ll tell you what, a bad bill, I’d rather have no bill than a bad bill.”
Although the paper is still secret, Congress has been engaged in lively discussions as a result of this week’s piecemeal revelation of contents. Negotiators from both parties are making a concerted effort to win over Senate Republicans to suggested ideas that would change the country’s immigration rules.
The discussions have become more complex as a result of Trump and other Republicans interjecting themselves into the conversation and working to undermine the accord.
