The judge’s ruling of life without parole is applauded by Lepird’s sister, Trinity McAllister!
“We were very pleased with the decision. I mean, you can’t beat two life sentences. We’re very thankful that he will never be out to hurt another person again,” McAllister told WXMI.
Reed’s horrifying rampage began when he shot Soule and continued when he hunted down and killed Lepird.
“He not only shot her, he chased her down; he hit her with a metal object; he tried to slit her throat. He then strangled her until a life went out of her,” stated Tamara Towns, the prosecutor, during Reed’s October trial.
Reed was found guilty of four offenses involving weapons in addition to first- and second-degree murder.
After hearing the verdict, Reed became even more agitated and began to question the validity of the proceedings.
“I object, your Honor. This court does not have jurisdiction, just as I said. I call for the jury to review a record of the holding documents that they’re holding the hearing illegally, and they have,” Reed said, WXMI.
Judge Sarah Lincoln silences Reed and gives him two very clear directives.

See a preview of the trial that started on October 3. Discover the connection between Soule, Lepird, and Reed—who lived on separate levels of the same house.
Reed claims that Soule had threatened him with a knife, therefore he justified his actions as self-defense. But in addition to shooting Lepird, Reed admits to chasing after her, beating her, and finally strangling her when she managed to flee the house.
A disturbing discovery of blood inside Reed’s house raises concerns regarding the couple’s unexplained departure, according to the investigator. There are no indications of a break-in to dash the detective’s expectations of simple solutions.
In addition to putting the victims’ bodies in plastic wrap, Reed kept them in the rear of his truck. After a while, he relocated the truck to a deserted garage.
“In the bed of the truck, there were two plastic garbage cans — large ones like you take to the curb. We emptied those,” An investigator informed the jury.
“As we kept going, we started seeing lumpy, or hump areas, covered by black plastic,” the investigator added. “Then we got to an area where we saw what appeared to be human remains encased in plastic.”
Prosecutors said that all the evidence suggested murder.
“All the facts, taken as a whole, paint a very clear picture — the defendant, Chad Reed, brutally murdered Jaclyn Lepird and Joseph Soule. He planned it. He intended it,” remarked the prosecuting attorneys in their concluding remarks.
Within a day, a verdict was reached: on October 5, the case was presented to the jury.
