Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida is not showing any signs of wavering as he rejected fellow Republican contender Vivek Ramaswamy’s appeal to get out of the Colorado primary with firmness. The main focus of Ramaswamy’s ultimatum is former President Donald Trump’s eligibility.
On Tuesday, Ramaswamy, a businessman and emerging star in the Republican primary, declared his plan to abstain from the Colorado GOP primary. But Governor DeSantis is of a different opinion. “No, I think that’s just playing into the left,” DeSantis said to Newsmax.

“I think the case will get overturned by the Supreme Court, but I’ve qualified for all the ballots. I’m competing in all the states and I’m going to accumulate the delegates necessary.”

“That’s the whole name of the game in this situation. But I do anticipate that that decision was political and will get reversed,” The Governor of Florida concluded.
Ramaswamy denounced the verdict as a “actual” assault on democracy and labeled it as un-American, unconstitutional, and unprecedented when it was rendered on Tuesday.

DeSantis’s position demonstrates the divergent approaches inside the fractured Republican Party with respect to the 2024 presidential contest. Every contender is well behind Trump. FiveThirtyEight states that the GOP’s current standing is as follows:

Even though Trump has not been charged or found guilty in relation to the January 6 indictment, his appeal to the US Supreme Court is still pending.

The court’s ruling, which is grounded in the 14th Amendment, forbids “former officers” of the US from holding public office if they had participated in “rebellion” or “insurrection.” Critics have labeled this as unusual and politically motivated.
“Having tried every trick in the book to eliminate President Trump from running in this election, the bipartisan Establishment is now deploying a new tactic to bar him from ever holding office again: the 14th Amendment,”
About X, Ramaswamy wrote. Despite being Trump’s opponent in the Republican primaries, Ramaswamy has consistently denounced leftist lawfare. Ramaswamy went to the Florida courthouse after Trump was arrested a second time on allegations of mishandling secret materials and promised to pardon him if he was found guilty.
On Tuesday, Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung wrote, “Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia over the growing, dominant lead President Trump has amassed in the polls. They have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November.”
One of the dissenting justices, Justice Carlos Samour, expressed his disapproval of the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling to exclude Trump. Samour wrote following the decision, “The decision to bar former President Donald J. Trump — by all accounts the current leading Republican presidential candidate (and reportedly the current leading overall presidential candidate) — from Colorado’s presidential primary ballot flies in the face of the due process doctrine.”
