Embarrassment for KJP: Fact Check Exposes Price Decline Blunder!

Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, received a humiliating fact check after asserting that President Biden has reduced the cost of meals and travel.

“This Thanksgiving, we’re seeing important progress on inflation, with prices lower for: Thanksgiving dinner, gas, airline tickets, car rentals, toys, TVs,” Wednesday, right before Thanksgiving, Jean-Pierre wrote in an X post.

Jean-Pierre said that there is “a-lot to be thankful for” in the nation before absolving the president of any blame for inflation in a video post that went along with it. “We have made significant progress, even though the pandemic and Russia’s conflict have resulted in persistent inflation. Gas prices have dropped $1.70 from their peak, just in time for holiday travel. Over the past year, there has been a 13% decrease in airline tickets and a 10% decrease in car rentals. Furthermore, grocery inflation is at its lowest point in more than two years as we begin to prepare our Thanksgiving meals; prices for fresh vegetables, eggs, milk, and bacon are all lower than they were a year ago, the spokesperson added.

The press secretary for the White House continued by asserting that this Thanksgiving was the “fourth cheapest Thanksgiving ever.”

The post received a “Community Note,” which enables Twitter users to instantly verify claims, shortly after it went live. After then, the note can be rated as “helpful” or “unhelpful” by the community.

“Prices are compared to the same period last year, which was in the middle of Biden’s term.” The note continues, “Even then, food prices are not lower as claimed,” before providing a link to the U.S. Labor Statistics Bureau. Other statements made by Jean-Pierre were refuted by the administration’s own statistics, which showed that food prices have gone up in just the last month alone.

The short memo also mentioned how prices are still astronomically high in comparison to January 2021, when Biden took office. Months’ worth of polling data seem to indicate that the American people are not responding to the administration’s repeated assertions that inflation is “down” and pointing to last year’s numbers.

“Compared to the beginning of Biden’s term, all prices remain significantly higher. Gas, for example, remains up 36% since Biden took office,” the note goes on to include a link to a chart.
