Jordan gave reporters a quick interview and stated, “We made the pitch to members on the resolution [to empower McHenry] as a way to lower the temperature and get back to work.
“We decided that wasn’t where we were going to go,” In the video that Benny Johnson sent to the social networking network X, formerly known as Twitter, he added.
“I’m still running for speaker, and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race, but I want to talk with a few of my colleagues.”
“Particularly, I want to talk with the 20 individuals who voted against me so that we can move forward and begin to work for the American people,” He ended and started to leave the microphones.
A reporter asked Jordan if there might be a third vote today before she left, but she choose not to answer. Rep. Matt Gaetz, who was proposed by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, is expected to be on the ballot on Thursday night, according to a post by Nick Sortor on X.
Jordan had allied with several Republican House members earlier in the day to try to carry out what Gaetz had called a “constitutional desecration.”
After failing to get enough votes to become speaker of the House, Jordan supports temporarily strengthening McHenry’s authority to maintain House operations, according to The Hill.
On Thursday afternoon, doubt lingered as to whether the House would be able to adopt a resolution. But Pennsylvania Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick said in the morning that House members were fully aware that the end outcome would be granting McHenry temporary authority, which Representative Matt Gaetz referred to as “speaker-lite.”

Fitzpatrick sees no way around the idea of giving McHenry interim authority akin to that of a speaker who is duly elected. These authorities would only be functional until January, though.
It’s rare for speakers to not be in the presidential succession line, and he also fits this description.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, one of the House Republicans, immediately expressed opposition to the proposal.
In a message to X, Greene supported Jordan by writing, ““Our conference must unite and elect a full-term Republican Speaker.”
When Greene wrote was a mystery “Republicans working with Democrats is how we got here” Whether she was referring to Gaetz and seven other House Republicans backing with the whole House Democratic caucus to remove the previous speaker or McCarthy’s discussions with the Biden White House and House Democrats.
Republican Reps. Tim Burchett, Pat Fallon, Scott Perry, and Chip Roy, according to The Hill, are adamantly opposed to any limitations on McHenry’s speakership.
The most vocal adversary may have been Gaetz, the initiator.
“I’m against speaker-lite,” When questioned about giving McHenry more authority, Gaetz responded to the reporter. “I’m against Bud Lite. I believe it is a constitutional desecration to not elect a speaker of the House. We need to stay here until we elect a speaker.”
Republicans faced internal resistance from six party members, limiting their ability to get 215 votes for the measure. They would have needed to bargain with Democrats for more votes in order to approve it.
Unknown are Jordan’s strategies for winning over Democrats and his position as a “speaker-lite”. Contrary to misconceptions, he is still running for office and is now the Republican party’s speaker-designate.

The GOP needs to get its act together and get behind Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House. Do you really want another Democrat as speaker? Didn’t you learn anything when Pelosi had that position? The GOP needs to stop the inhouse fighting, elect Jordan and move on with the business of America and Americans. The country is crumbling and you are nit picking and squabbling like 2 year olds. Enough already!
Well THAT’S IT FOR ME!!! I am dropping my membership as a Republican!! They ‘re complete fools. Thanks to their stupidity we will have an interim DEMORAT as a speaker and Lord knows how this will end. They should think about the job they are hired to do and not their ridiculous EGO’S. The DEMORATS would NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN! THEY STICK TOGETHER. Well I’ll be an Independant I am finished with GOP STUPIDITY!!!
TWENTY republican traitors, just what we do not need in congress.
