Exclusively in his most recent statement, President Trump promised that, if re-elected, he will release the confidential materials previously kept secret about John F. Kennedy’s murder.
President Trump declassified some 2,800 papers about the killing of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, in October 2017, during his first year in office. Though he claimed at the time that he had “no choice” but to keep part of the papers secret, it appears that the FBI and CIA pushed that he not reveal all of them. Trump went one step further in October 2018 and imposed a three-year limit on the disclosure of all outstanding documents. That deadline has, regrettably, not been met. Additional batches of documents were made public by President Biden in 2021 and 2022, but some are still secret today.
During his second administration, Trump promises to make long-held JFK secrets public. On May 15, Trump promised that if he were elected again in 2020, he would declassify the final secret records relating to the killing of President John F. Kennedy. He assertively said that the release of these records will occur “very early in [his] term.” This revolutionary action would expose to the public all official information of the JFK assassination.
Trump is renowned for enjoying JFK conspiracy theories. He claimed to Fox News in May 2016 during the GOP presidential primary race that Senator Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) father had been with Oswald. “prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot. That was reported, and nobody talks about it.” The accusation, which was based on a National Enquirer piece, was denounced by Cruz’s team as “another garbage story.” There was a commotion at the moment, though.
