She is now rushing for cover after an apparently simple deal between a high-ranking politician and an unidentified party sparked a significant problem.
Elissa Slotkin, a congresswoman from Michigan, is a key figure in the 2024 contest for the state’s open Senate seat.
Joe Biden and other well-known Democrats have been the subject of political rumors that have questioned if Communist China’s commercial dealings were utilized to sway American politics.
Recently, Congresswoman Slotkin has drawn attention for signing a contract with Gotion, a subsidiary of a Chinese company. With the help of this agreement, Michigan may soon be home to electric vehicle battery manufacturing facilities, promoting economic development and advancing technology on American soil.
Fox News states:
The Michigan lawmaker and her deputy legislative director, Austin Girelli, signed NDAs to discuss the proposal from Gotion, a division of the Hefei, China-based Gotion High-Tech, to construct an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Big Rapids, Michigan, according to information provided by Slotkin’s office to The Detroit News earlier this year. It would be outside Slotkin’s congressional district to site the proposed factory.
A spokesperson for Slotkin, Austin Cook, told the outlet in February that Slotkin thought it was crucial “to learn more about significant economic development projects like this to better understand their impact, and if there are ways to help from the federal level.” He acknowledged that Slotkin and her staff had signed NDAs in order to “be part of those conversations.”
But this week, Fox News Digital questioned Cook and Slotkin’s chief of staff, Matt Hennessey, about the NDA, if she signed it to protect herself from questioning regarding Gotion, and whether she thought it was proper to keep such negotiations hidden from the public.
Communist China wants to rise to a position of global dominance and become the world’s top superpower with the goal of overthrowing the United States.
Additionally, the Chinese Communist Party is making use of all of its potential soft power.
China has attempted to sway American politics by seizing on the prospect of commercial opportunity.
In the early stages of President Joe Biden’s administration, suspicions that some members of his family received $1 million in payments from a corporation suspected of secretly working for Chinese intelligence have brought his family under public attention.
If Slotkin wins the Democratic primary for the Senate, her suspected connections to a Chinese company and odd nondisclosure agreement may become the main points of concern in a competitive race.
