Attorneys Gone Wild: SPLC Lawyer Charged With Domestic Terrorism

After their involvement in a violent Antifa rally in Atlanta, an attorney connected to the SPLC—an organization that often lumps right-leaning ideology with extreme hate organizations like the KKK—was detained and charged with domestic terrorism.

This past weekend brought an unnerving surprise to Atlanta: Molotov cocktails and fireworks were used in a “coordinated attack” on a police training facility that was being built, according to the authorities. Thomas Jurgens (28), one of those detained, attracted particular notice since he worked as an attorney for the renowned civil rights group SPLC; as a result, he deleted his LinkedIn profile almost immediately after being detained.

In connection with a violent demonstration that was attended by people from all across the US as well as Europe and Canada, two Georgians, Jurgens and Jack Beaman, have been charged with domestic terrorism.

35 “violent agitators” were detained during an assault on a police facility. Law enforcement’s behavior was noticed by onlookers, however the Southern Poverty Law Center chose not to respond in light of this information. Those who have been detained as part of an inquiry resulting from recent events apparently targeted the projected $90 million training facility.

Authorities are contemplating filing domestic terrorism charges against individuals involved in light of the most recent arrests. How many of them could suffer this destiny is still up in the air.

Protesters launched a coordinated attack using Molotov cocktails, pyrotechnics, rocks, and bricks against police officers during a tumultuous weekend march. Many pieces of construction equipment were set on fire following this assault on public safety employees. The incident was subsequently referred to as a “coordinated attack” by Atlanta Police Chief Schierbaum.

“This was a very violent attack, very violent attack,” Schierbaum said. “This wasn’t about a public safety training center. This was about anarchy… and we are addressing that quickly.”

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, some left-wing protestors went to extreme lengths, including attempting to blind police officials by illuminating their eyes with strong green lasers.

Gov. Kemp strongly condemned the escalation of violence and labeled it a horrible case of “domestic terrorism.”

“As I’ve said before, domestic terrorism will NOT be tolerated in this state,” Kemp said. “We will not rest until those who use violence and intimidation for an extremist end are brought to full justice.”

As Breitbart News reported, in reaction to the murder of activist Manuel Teran, 26, who was slain during a police sweep, far-left rioters set a police cruiser on fire and damaged the windows of a number of nearby businesses in January. “in what the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said was an exchange of gunfire with police that wounded a state trooper,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution claims (AJC).

During the demonstration in Atlanta, there were several violent incidents, including the setting on fire of a police vehicle, as well as shoplifting and property destruction along Peachtree Street. When domestic terrorist Floyd Lee Corkins II attempted a mass shooting at the Family Research Council in 2013, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) risky choice to associate conservatives with hate organizations had potentially fatal ramifications. The SPLC’s tactics inspired this violent attack and demonstrated how irresponsible labeling might have terrible repercussions.

The Center for Immigration Studies’ Mark Krikorian stated his worry that broad allegations of “hate” might harm discourse and discourage substantive discussion. To highlight this argument, he wrote an opinion article for the Washington Post.

“The wickedness of the SPLC’s blacklist lies in the fact that it conflates groups that really do preach hatred, such as the Ku Klux Klan and Nation of Islam, with ones that simply do not share the SPLC’s political preferences,” he wrote. “The obvious goal is to marginalize the organizations in this second category by bullying reporters into avoiding them, scaring away writers and researchers from working for them, and limiting invitations for them to discuss their work.”

The SPLC stated that one of its members, a “legal observer,” had been detained during the event on Monday. We don’t yet know what repercussions this person could experience.
