A well-known financial adviser to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s team, Freda Brasfield, has been charged with planning and participating in money laundering.
The “Democratic political activist and community organizer” reportedly participated in a plot to “get synthetic drugs into [the] state prison system,” Famous Boston 25 TV journalist Bob Ward has offered his opinions on the subject.

Longtime Boston Democratic political activist Kalvin Brasfield appeared in court with Jaime Liberty and Jayleen Rivera as defendants. All three were accused of planning to bring prohibited narcotics into the MCI Shirley prison.
Brasfield publicly refuted the charges of money laundering and conspiring to do it while being represented by renowned Boston attorney David Meier.
Brasfield, Liberty, and Rivera were given permission to go on their own recognizance without posting bond.
On December 15, 2022, a grand jury indicted Freda Brasfield for an unspecified criminal act, according to documents filed in Woburn Superior Court.
Four prisoners and five “non-incarcerated relations or significant others,” allegedly engaged in a complicated web of unlawful activity beginning in January 2021 with the intention of smuggling synthetic marijuana K2 and Spice into MCI Shirley. Freda Brasfield, a relative of one of the accused prisoners in this case, was in the middle.
Manuel “Junior” Dasilva, a former prisoner at MCI Shirley, and nine other accomplices were given the job of bringing synthetic narcotics into the institution. They reportedly devised a complex plan to smuggle illicit drugs within prison gates together.
Why did Brasfield continue working for the government for two months after being charged in December 2022? This puzzling event is the subject of an inquiry.
Since corruption has placed a shadow over the mayor’s office, it is sense that the public is looking for answers.
